Date night & Batman & a marriage proposal.

by heirtoblair on August 16, 2012

We had two options last night – sit around on our bums & mope about the house or get out.  So Doug & I set off into the wild blue yonder, otherwise known as Downtown Raleigh.

Otherwise known as Gotham.  (don’t ask me to explain that awesomeness.  i can’t.  but that is a legit bat signal.)

I took a few suggestions from Twitter on where to go that was new & diferent & definitely not Outback.  I love me some Bloomin’ Onion as much as anyone else, but we’re trying to get into the culture of Raleigh now that we’re here.  Raleigh has charm when you dig into it & I’m excited to learn the city I grew up in.  Per Kate’s suggestion, we went to Gravy which is not biscuits & potatos but American Italian & super-yummy.  We felt young & wild, doing something that we never do - ordered a bottle of wine, a light Pinot Noir that made my cheeks flush.

I even ordered an after dinner decaf cappucino.  I was 75% intoxicated at this point & squealing like a little girl over the cinnamon in my cup.  Then I asked our waitress for a “chocolate happy cake” & she brought out a no-flour chocolate tart that was smothered in whip cream.  I might have proposed marriage to her after that.

I wasn’t aware of Gravy until I went to visit my sister a couple weeks ago and we went to Sitti. (Which by the way is also AWESOME!) Gravy is on my list for next time.

Ha! J and I had a date night just a few weeks ago when Lil’ Bit was at my parents’ house, and I got downright drunk. Tastings at three separate wineries in a span of 90 minutes plus wine at dinner will do that, I suppose. But it was fun and totally out of the ordinary for us and I was all, “I’m so happeeeee!”

Downtown Raleigh is one of my favorite places. I come there for business about 3 or 4 times a year and I end up talking about moving to Raleigh for weeks after I come home. I love The Pit (for NC BBQ meets trendy spot) and The Flying Saucer (you would love the craft beer selection), And DAPPER – it’s a bar and a boutique. Shopping and cocktails simoultaneously? Yes, please.

I so would have proposed marriage to that waitress. Totally normal.

Hmmm…interesting that they had the bat signal. They put one up in downtown Pittsburgh awhile back, but that’s ’cause the most recent Batman movie was filmed there.
Anyhow, glad you had a lovely night out!
